Simon’s first short film The Calf was made with funding and development from The New Zealand Film Commission and went on to premiere in competition at Odense International Film Festival 2022. His second film That Workman’s Arm premiered in competition at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2022 and earned him a place on the Directing Fiction MA course at the UK’s prestigious National Film & Television School. His NFTS graduation film This Is Ours premiered at Reykjavik International Film Festival 2023, where it won The Golden Egg new talent award. Talent development Labs include the Reykjavik IFF Talent Lab and the NZFC Fresh Shorts Lab. Simon’s work often explores universal human fragility and darker psychological themes. As well as directing a new short film in early 2026, he has several feature and series drama projects in development.
